Log builders were created, because
engineers need heroes too.
The log construction craft
Selective Harvesting
We source our timber mainly from large private landowners in the west of North America, which means we are less dependent on market price fluctuations and sustainably protect the "forest ecosystem" around the felled tree. We do not support deforestation!
Debarking
In the next step, the previously gentle and naturally pre-dried logs are removed from bark. The bark thus obtained is of course not thrown away, but processed in several agricultural and industrial areas e.g. into fertilizer, bark mulch or heating pellets.
Log Peeling
Then the bark and cambium are removed by hand with the draw knife. This is quite a sweaty job, but our hardworking helpers are pampered every minute by the beauty of British Columbia's nature and our passion for building handcrafted Canadian log homes.
Latewood Finish
In the so-called "latewood finish", the log is debarked with high water pressure instead of with a "draw knife". The exposed winter wood is particularly hard and creates a beautiful, silky, shiny look of the Western Red Cedar.
Shipping
After the complete production of your log home shell, all the logs are numbered and loaded onto trucks or into containers and transported to your property for reconstruction. Despite the transport, we are still very far ahead in the ecological balance of your handcrafted log home, because the logs used have already absorbed several tons of carbon dioxide during their complete growth in the forest.
